The Transatlantic "Intrepid: sail for liberty":
A maritime challenge, a demanding human adventure in the footsteps of History

To mark the 400th anniversary of the French Navy and the 250th anniversary of the United States' Independence, the French Naval Academy, in partnership with the U.S. Naval Academy, is launching the operation "Transatlantic Intrepid: Heading for Freedom."

In May 2026, a Franco-American crew made up of cadets from the U.S. Naval Academy and midshipmen from the French Naval Academy will set sail aboard the sailing vessel L’Intrépide for a transatlantic crossing from Brest to New York.
This project celebrates the alliance between our two nations through a demanding maritime and human adventure, following in the footsteps of History.
